❓Frequently Asked Questions
Because the World of Ree is full of questions—and thankfully, Scott has answers.

Where do you get your ideas? From my imagination--which, thankfully, is still fully operational--and from reading other great authors and illustrators. Sometimes I just stare into space until something strange and wonderful pops into my head. (Don’t worry, it’s part of the creative process.)
How do you name your characters? I like to play with sounds until I find something fun and Ree-worthy. I’ve always been inspired by Dr. Seuss, so you’ll notice a lot of goofy, bouncy, rhymey names in my books. Jeeter the Erf? Classic.
How long will it take to get my book if I order online? Orders usually ship within 3-5 business days, and we use USPS Media Mail. If you asked for your books to be signed or personalized, don’t worry, it won’t add any extra time. Unless Scott spills his tea. (Hasn’t happened yet.)
What do the Beebees eat? The Beebees love berries, veggies, and Beeberry Cake—a legendary dessert that is fluffy, fruity, and probably very sticky. Do not attempt to make it without supervision from a trained Ree chef.
Can I get my book signed? Absolutely! Scott signs all books ordered from the website--and if you leave a note at checkout, he’ll personalize it with your child’s name, a special message, or maybe even a doodle.
How did you learn to draw? By studying other artists, taking art courses, and practicing every day. Lots of trial, lots of error, and more than a few broken pencils along the way. If you're wondering if it's easy--it’s not. But is it fun? You bet.
How often do you draw? Every single day. Even weekends. Even on vacation. Drawing isn’t just a job--it’s a habit, a hobby, and sometimes a compulsion. (Send help... and more sketchbooks.)
Are the books good for young children? Yes! Many of Scott’s books are perfect for reading aloud to younger kids, especially The Family of Ree and The Kuekumber Kids. They rhyme, they’re colorful, and they teach kindness without getting preachy. Bonus: adults actually enjoy reading them too.
Are there any activity books or learning resources? We have free downloads like a Word Search Ebook, paper airplane template, and a "Parts of a Story" handout for young writers. Check out the Freebies and Resources pages to grab yours.
Do you still do school visits? Yes! Scott has spoken to over 500,000 students across the U.S. about creativity, reading, and imagination. If you're a teacher or librarian, head over to the School Visits page for details.
